Wanting to know what PSI your pram tyres should be?
Finding your pram tyre pressure is simple. All you need to do is look at the side of the tyre and you'll see its pressure rating wrote in the rubber, usually wrote with 'PSI' and / or 'Bar' next to it. Remember to check all your tyres individually and voila, all the PSI answers are yours!
As you can see in the example above that the PSI rating is 35. This is what the optimum pressure is required for this particular tyre. Always check the side of each tyre you wish to inflate because they can all be very different. This is merely an example for this exact tyre.
Once you've found the pressure rating, next you'll need to know what pressure you're putting in. This is where a pressure gauge comes in. You can find these on most hand pumps and foot pumps. It's the only sure fire way to know you are running your pram tyres at the right pressure. Be sure to find the PSI indicator (if you are working in PSI) then pump away until it reaches the correct level. Then carefully remove the pump head allowing as little air escape as possible in the process. It's good practice to check your pressures regularly. At least once a month.
3 Benefits of correct pram tyre pressure
1. Fewer Punctures
Having the right pressure means the right amount of surface area is contact with the floor. If your tyres are too low, you're increasing the surface area to pick up foreign objects. Also, be-careful not to overload your pram or stroller. Follow the manufacturers recommendations.
2. Reduced Tyre Wear
With incorrectly inflated pram tyres you run the risk of rapidly increasing tyre wear. More surface contact creates more friction, more friction has the effect of dragging and rubbing the tyre on the floor. Running at the wrong pressure can really end up costing you a new set of tyres very quickly. Many people think it's the rubber quality, however, overloading a pram or running the wrong pressure can be culprit!
3. Less Rolling Resistance
Feeling the burn? Incorrect or low pressure in your buggies tyres can significantly increase the amount of effort you need to roll. Again it comes down to surface area in contact with the floor. Imagine trying to run in oversized wellies vs. a lightweight pair of trainers.
In conclusion...
All in all it pays to check your tyre pressures. It'll save you punctures, the cost of replacing tyres and it'll make long walks so much easier!
