There are three main categories of pram tyre used on most prams. Broadly speaking they fall into one of the three segments below. Identifying which you have will help when it comes time to replace or upgrade them. Here is our quick fire guide on how to identifying which pram tyre type you have!
Air-filled Pram Tyres
Air-filled tyres, also known as pneumatic tyres are a very common type of pram tyre. Used across a variety of prams, buggies, strollers and joggers a wide variety of brands use this type of pram tyre. The key identifier to look out for is an inner tube valve. If you can see an inner tube valve sticking out of your pram wheel, then you’ve got air-filled tyres that require an inner tube. This is the number one way to spot this type of tyre.
Pros of Air Filled Pram Tyres
- Light Weight
- Comfortable
- Easy to replace
Cons of Air Filled Pram Tyres
- Punctures
Foam Filled Pram Tyres / Solid Pram tyres
Similar in many way to a normal or inner tube tyre, are foam filled tyres or solid. In many cases these can be a standard pneumatic pram tyre, but with an inner foam core. The material of the core can vary, but it’s aim is to mimic the characteristics of an inner tube, but with a 100% puncture proof ability. The key identifier for a foam filled / infilled pram tyre are a rubber tyre, not a plastic one. In many cases they can have their specification wrote on the side of the tyre if it was / is originally an air-filled pram tyre. Also, the tyre will have some give in it when pressed. Some use a core, some are simply solid rubber.
Pros of Foam Filled Pram Tyres
- No punctures
- Long lasting
Cons of Foam Filled Pram Tyres
- Heavy
- Reduced comfort
- Expensive
- Can wear out
EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) Pram Tyres
Finally, very common pram tyre type is the EVA tyre. These are a more plasticised tyre. The ultimate in puncture protection, however it can come at the sacrifice of comfort. Easy ways to see that these are the type of tyres you have are that they have no valves, no tyre specification and they cannot be removed. Usually these are manufactured to the exact standards of the pram therefore are not replaceable. If these wear out, the option is a new wheel.

- Light weight
