Wanting to know how to inflate pram tyres? Here are a a few helpful hints of what to do when inflating your tyres and tubes!
With the tube already fitted?
If your tube is already fitted then, it's a simple case of attaching a car type valve pump (also known as a Schrader valve) to the valve stem.
Some cycle hand pump styles will require you to thread the valve adapter to the inner tube valve stem, others simply use a latch that squeezes around the inner tube valve stem and creates an air tight seal.
Remember to never use car garage or any powered pump to inflate pram tyres. We like to use simple cycle style pumps (hand or foot pump style), ideally with a pressure gauge so you know where you're at while inflating.
To find the pressure you require, simply look on the side of the tyre's side wall and written with be the pressure rating usually in PSI or BAR. Your pump will have these indicated to help.
If your tube is not already fitted?
You can see our how to fit an inner tube guide else here are a couple quick tips to help get your pram tyres pumped up:
1. Slightly inflate the inner tube before fitting it inside the tyre, just a couple of pump strokes are enough so it's a very loose circular shape. This stops the tube pinching when you install it and makes it much easier.
2. When inflating you must check that the inner tube is seated correctly in-between the wheel rim and the pram tyre. The easiest way to check is to disconnect your pump and spin the wheel, you're looking for it to be a consistent shape when it spins, if there is a bulge you need to deflate and refit the inner tube.
